the biggest takeaway that the Devils can take away from the game last night is that Corey Schneider is back. He looks 100% healthy and played amazing.

At the game. Fun to watch with all the young talent. Rangers defense still poor, but the pp and forwards looked good.

If Schneider regains form you guys could make a run

I have to agree. The posts certainly helped but he flat out robbed you guys a bunch of times. And then gave you that behind the net gift. Vintage Schneider... but I’ll take it.

I think Fox looked the most outstanding of all your new guys. Gorton needs to get Tony DeA signed though.

It may just be that Gusev will have chemistry with everyone. He's looked good everywhere so far.

sometimes CF% are not important, especially in 2nd game of pre-season

it's just that he has no idea how to write about anything else and thinks putting these stats up makes him look smart

I dont think thats why he puts corsi, robably more because its a stat that is tracked and some people put stock in it so why leave it out? I agree though, youre looking at team pocession for 1 player as if his prescence tilts the ice when theres so much more to it that you only get from watching. Theres 10 skaters, if someone on the other team turns it over in the neutral zone to your teammate, it had shíte to do with you but some random stat number jumps up for your advantage. That one and plus minus is so bizarre to keep track as a personal stat

In 2 of the Devils first 3 pre season games they have arguably dressed lesser rosters and are still 2 and 1 with most of the important pieces chipping in so we really cant complain. Also some nights you are going to need to pull out a win even if dominated the entire game. Bottom line is a W is a W and we will take them however we can !

Guys nobody panic but they're playing Hall-Hughes-Palms in practice

If the devils where 2 and 1 in pre season and guys like Nico, Hughes, Boqvist, Bratt and Gusev were not playing well and producing I think we all would be worried.

Being 2 and 1 in pre season can mean something if youre good guys are getting rolling early vs 10 games into the regular season.

Even if Cory is just ok all season I think most of us are confident in what we have seen from Blackwood that the season doesnt solely rest on Cory being elite. Its not like Blackwood has no pedigree.

I think it's more about the stats showing Smith was alright despite the story of him being a disappointment so far. It's front and center because it's a topic of debate. I do agree that Schneider should get more credit though. He was great.

As a side note, stats help quantity just how good goalies are. Besides save percentage and all that good stuff, it's sometimes helpful to see the shot suppression from the defense or high danger chances from the other team or stats like corsi to better see how much pressure is being put on. They don't tell the whole story, but stats have a place in these conversations.
